What is the UK Workplace Charging Scheme?

The Workplace Charging Scheme is a government grant designed to support the upfront costs of installing EV charge points at workplaces. It covers 75% of the purchase and installation costs, up to a maximum of £350 per socket for up to 40 sockets per applicant.

Are you eligible for the grant?

You could qualify if you are:

  • A registered business, charity, or public sector organisation.
  • A small accommodation provider, including hotels, B&Bs, campsites, or holiday lets.
  • A small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) with less than 249 employees.
  • A public authority or NHS organisation.

Other key criteria include:

  • You must have dedicated off-street parking for staff or fleet vehicles.
  • You need to either own the property or have permission from your landlord.
  • You must intend to encourage the use of electric vehicles among your employees or fleet.
  • You must use an OZEV-approved installer (like Energize Electrical).

Even home-based registered businesses with eligible off-street parking can qualify — especially if the charger will be used for both personal and business vehicles.

EV adoption is only going to expand so it makes sense to make the most of the grant schemes when they’re available. Installing charge points at your workplace:

  • Supports your staff by making it easier for them to drive electric.
  • Shows your commitment to sustainability, improving your green credentials.
  • Future-proofs your business
  • May generate additional income if you’re eligible to open your EV charger to the public
