I am very happy with the service I received. This may be the most efficient company I have ever dealt with. I called up in the morning and they managed to fit me in later that day. The communication was excellent. I had an electronic quote within a matter of minutes and then a confirmation of my booking as soon as I accepted it. Jordan, who came to fix the fault, was so polite and helpful. I would definitely recommend this company and will use them again.

Neil & his team are great - I can’t fault anything. Always on time, clear communication, super friendly and helpful. We had some manufacturer issues with the charger (no fault of Energize) and Neil couldn’t have been quicker to sort this out - totally went over and above. Can’t recommend them enough!
I recently used Energize Electrical to upgrade my fuse board, install fire-rated downlights throughout the property, and carry out an EICR inspection. From start to finish, the service was professional, efficient, and well organised.

The team took the time to explain the work required, completed everything to a high standard, and left the property clean and tidy when finished. The fuse board upgrade and new fire-rated downlights were installed neatly, and the EICR report was provided promptly with clear explanations of any findings.

Communication was excellent throughout, and the work was completed on schedule with minimal disruption. I would have no hesitation in recommending Energize Electrical to anyone looking for reliable, knowledgeable electricians and quality workmanship.

Which EV charger should you buy?

Not sure which charger is best for your EV? We’re happy to guide you based on your needs and your vehicle. We don’t believe there’s one ‘best’ EV charger for every vehicle. During your home visit, or conversations prior to site visit, we’ll ask about your car, your electricity tariff, whether you have solar panels, where you park, whether you’re planning a second EV, and how you normally charge your vehicle. We can then recommend the charger that best suits your home and budget – even if it’s not the most expensive model we supply.

    Edinburgh EV Charger Installations

Edinburgh City Council are quite clear that, at the moment, you can only charge your vehicle with a private EV charger outside your home if you have off-street parking. Without off-street parking, you are not allowed to install a permanent or removable EV charger in Edinburgh. Even with a cable cover or channel, this isn’t allowed on public roads, pavements or paths as it can cause a trip hazard for pedestrians or cause issues for wheelchair users or people with impaired vision/mobility issues.

Installing a home EV charger in Edinburgh is perfectly fine if you have off-street parking or have a private off-street parking space. Other local Scottish councils are trialling EV charger installations for people without dedicated parking spaces but this isn’t currently an option in Edinburgh. You can find more Edinburgh-specific information here: https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/public-transport/find-electric-vehicle-charging-points-edinburgh/

Frequently asked questions about our Edinburgh EV charging installation service

With changing legislation coming into force in just under a decade, there’s never been a better time to invest in an electric vehicle of your own. If you do take the plunge, you’re going to need an EV charging point installed in your home to guarantee a smooth ride.

Installing an EV charging station on your property is the cheapest and most convenient way to top up your EV's battery. In addition, EV charging points can be set up to charge your vehicle during off-peak times (such as overnight). This way, not only will you wake up to a full battery for the day ahead, you’ll save some pennies, too. We have answered the most frequently asked questions about our EV Charger installation services, however, please do get in touch if you have more questions.

EV charging stations are typically installed on an exterior wall of your home or garage. Using one of our qualified electricians, installing your new EV charging point will usually take no more than a day to complete, so you can get back to driving.

Most homes have single phase 230V supply meaning the maximum power of chargers suitable are 7kw/32amps. Commercial premises or buildings with three-phase supply, need a 22kw charger.

Chargers are supplied by a 6mm cable wired directly from your fusebox/consumer unit and must be on their own dedicated circuit. Depending on the condition and capacity of your fusebox/consumer unit, an additional unit may need to be installed to supply the electric vehicle circuit.

A 7kw charger will give 30 miles of range per hour - the size of your car battery will determine how long it will take to charge. A typical EV should take around 8 hours to reach full from empty.

The cost to charge your EV at home will depend entirely on your electricity tariff. You are charged for the kw drawn to charge your battery. For the smallest EVs like the Nissan Leaf on off-peak tariffs, you could be looking at prices starting from as low as £3 per charge. Larger vehicles will cost more of course as they have larger batteries with better range. For example a full electric Hyundai Ioniq costs much less to run than than an equivalent petrol or diesel saloon, at around £4.80 to charge from empty to full with a range of 193 miles, costing only 2.94p per mile (based on 14p/kWh tariff).

Suppliers now offer great EV tariffs with money saving incentives, scheduled charging enables the car to be plugged in and set to charge between pre-set times like midnight and 7am to charge when the EV tariff gives the lowest price of electricity. This requires a smart meter to be fitted by your supplier.

The key thing to note is public chargers will most certainly cost a lot more as they don’t follow set tariffs and can set their own prices.

Remember, you could be entitled to up to £500 grant funding to help with the cost of installation.

    • EV – Electric Vehicle
    • EVHS – Electric Vehicle Home charging Scheme. Available for domestic installations.
    • WCS – Workplace Charging Scheme. Available for business and public sector installations.
    • OZEV – Office for Zero Emission Vehicles. Formerly known as OLEV (Office for Low Emission Vehicles).
    • EST – Energy Savings Trust. An additional organisation providing additional funding for Scottish EV users.

9/10 customers go for tethered – a built in lead – as it is more convenient and allows you to keep your spare lead in the boot to use when you are away from home. Some clients prefer to have untethered – socket only – as they find the coiled leads untidy when not in use, it’s a matter of personal taste and what suits you.
